The Greensville County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 4 to approve a memorandum of agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health that formalizes acceptance of $1,200,000 in state funding for the Liberty Road project. County staff said the award will fund engineering design work and part of the property acquisition necessary to move the road project forward, but will not cover the full cost.
County staff told the board the engineering contract will be executed promptly so design work can begin; staff emphasized that the $1.2 million must be expended by June 30, 2026, because the funds do not roll over to another fiscal year. The board voted to approve the resolution authorizing the agreement and the planned next steps.
The county offered no firm total project budget at the meeting, noting that the state award covers engineering and a portion of acquisition costs and that additional funding sources will be necessary to complete the full project scope. The engineer is expected to begin work after contract execution, including design and right‑of‑way work tied to the Department of Health funding timetable.
