Supervisors receive updates on tree cleanup, bridge work, cooling-system repairs and sewer valve project

County department heads provided a series of operational updates Aug. 5, reporting storm-related tree cleanup, bridge work at the Mount Vernon site, completion of cooling-system repairs at the courthouse and Pine Crest facility, and finishing the Washburn sewer valve repair project.

A county official said crews were doing tree cleanup primarily in the northwest portion of the county after high winds and that mower crews were working on hard-surface roads; the bridge crew planned pile driving at the Mount Vernon site with staff inviting supervisors to observe. Facilities staff told the board both cooling systems at Pine Crest and the courthouse were repaired; the Pine Crest repair involved a difficult-to-access part and staff described it as an uncommon failure in a roughly 10-year-old unit. Facilities staff said they will present repair costs at a future meeting once invoices are finalized.

The board also heard that the Washburn sewer valve repair is completed and that county engineering staff and contractor representatives will conduct a final inspection. Finally, the temporary redistricting commission completed required paperwork for supervisor districts and reported only a two-person change from the 2021 redistricting numbers after annexations; staff said any ordinance update would be reviewed this month then forwarded to the state as required.
