Supervisors adopt rezoning to allow single-family home north of West Mount Vernon Road

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 5 adopted an amendment to the county's agricultural preservation zoning ordinance to rezone 1.67 acres north of 6124 West Mount Vernon Road from agricultural to agricultural-residential for construction of a single-family home.
Joseph Cowman, zoning administrator, told the board the request was part of a larger parcel: the portion retained with the existing house would keep the septic lines and the new 1.67-acre lot would be split off for the proposed home. He said the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval unanimously. Cowman said an existing restrictive covenant would be rescinded with the condition that the applicant pull the building permit within six months, at which point the covenant would be rescinded and construction may proceed.
The board waived the usual multi-meeting reading requirement and voted to adopt the ordinance amendment (recorded as an amendment to Ordinance No. 36 and assigned local subsection number 300 / ordinance number 77-300 in the meeting record). The public hearing record showed no oral or written opposition on file at the time of the hearing.
