Brian Schneider, a Pinellas County resident, told the Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 5 that overgrown vegetation on sidewalks near Enterprise Road repeatedly forced him to ride his e‑bike into the street. Schneider said he encountered six locations where growth obstructed the sidewalk on July 3 and that he filed a county service request (4443035) after returning home. "I was told that generally, it takes two weeks for the arborist to investigate it before the work is assigned," Schneider said. He also told the board he received a follow‑up phone call from a county supervisor, who told him the county had three crews covering the whole county and that much of the work is complaint driven. Nut graf: Schneider framed the complaint as a safety issue for cyclists and other sidewalk users, and urged the commission to consider additional staffing or a maintenance program that would find and clear obstructions proactively rather than waiting for residents to report them. The board did not take formal action on the item; the presentation occurred during the Citizens to Be Heard public‑comment period. Commissioners asked for the service number on the record and staff confirmed the request had been created and that at least one of the locations Schneider showed in photographs had been partially cleared after his follow‑up call. Discussion vs. decision: Commissioners and staff discussed operational capacity, response procedures and the arborist review timeline. No motion or ordinance was proposed or voted on; Schneider requested consideration of additional staffing or a different maintenance approach. Ending: Commissioners did not schedule a follow‑up item during the meeting. Residents with similar complaints were advised to use the county service request process so staff could log, triage and prioritize repairs.
