The purchase replaces the previous rental/lease memorandum-of-understanding approach and provides closure to a protracted negotiation about tower control and equipment tenancy.
Commissioners discussed the history: Simon Ranch had earlier indicated it would not be part of a joint structure plan, leading to uncertainty about who would occupy or maintain the tower. The purchase is intended to resolve that uncertainty and allow county control of the site. The motion to approve the purchase and relinquishment of interest passed unanimously.
Staff said the acquisition will allow the county to complete prior coordination and to proceed with planned communications site management; the seller agreed to remove equipment per the agreement timelines.
