Commission ratifies charter-review committee appointments and schedules joint meeting Aug. 19

The City Commission ratified appointments to the city’s charter-review committee and agreed to hold a joint meeting to give the committee initial direction. Each commissioner submitted one appointee; the nominations announced during the meeting were: former Mayor Jerry Taylor (mayor’s appointee), Reverend Dames (vice mayor’s appointee), Phyllis Viciti (Commissioner Cruz’s appointee), David Katz (Commissioner Kelly’s appointee) and Angela Chornowsky (Commissioner Turkin’s appointee). The commission approved Resolution R25-214 to ratify the selections. The commission agreed to begin the joint meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 19 and to hold the regular commission meeting thereafter. Commissioners asked staff to provide copies of the city charter and other materials to committee members in advance; committee members asked for a staff contact and basic orientation materials. There was no discussion of specific charter changes at this session; commissioners said the joint session would be the opportunity to present specific items for review and to set the committee’s meeting schedule and deliverable timeline.
