Butte — Commissioners discussed the citywide zoning ordinance rewrite and a proposed set of building‑type images and design guidelines and encouraged members and local stakeholders to submit comments through the Butte‑Silver Bow comment form.
Commissioners and staff said the draft is extensive and may include design standards and building‑type illustrations intended to guide development in different zones. Kate said she will review the 300‑page draft and that the commission’s input would be valuable; she noted the draft includes a section on signage and that the commission’s sign expertise could inform that section.
Commission staff and members said the official comment deadline was originally Aug. 8, but staff reported the planning department intends to accept comments through the end of the month and to hold additional public listening sessions. Staff directed commissioners who want to submit consolidated comments to either submit individually through the website form or send comments to staff to compile and forward to the planning team. The draft zoning materials are posted on the Butte‑Silver Bow website’s zoning update landing page with a fillable comments form.
No formal commission position or vote was taken at the meeting; commissioners agreed to review the material and to discuss comments at the commission’s next meeting on Sept. 9 if members wished to coordinate a unified comment.
