During public participation on May 27, Sally Davidson requested that the town match donations raised for a Northfield Community Flag project that would place commemorative kits on town telephone poles along Main Street and other locations.
Davidson said each kit costs about $65 and the group’s goal is to raise $15,000. She asked whether the town might consider matching donations up to a ceiling amount or providing in-kind support for installation. Davidson also said a local business had offered to sponsor a flag and that a donor had offered a large piece of granite for a flag base on the common; she asked whether the town could coordinate installation.
Select Board members told Davidson they could not commit funds or take action during public participation but that the board would place the request on a future agenda as an action item after organizers provide details about funds raised and any requested ceiling for a municipal match. The manager confirmed the request had not been on the current agenda and that, under meeting rules, the board could not vote appropriations during public comment.
Davidson said she hoped the flags could be installed before Veterans Day and that a trifold brochure describing the project was available for the board. Town staff said they would follow up to coordinate installation details, including whether a concrete or granite base would be required and who would construct it.
