Mayor Robert E. Scott proclaimed August 2025 as National Health Center Week and presented a proclamation recognizing the Siouxland Community Health Center’s role in local care. The proclamation, read aloud at the start of the meeting, credited community health centers with providing primary and preventive health care across underserved communities and said they now serve “over 333,000,000 Americans and over 14,000 delivery sites” and “1 in every 10 people” in the United States.
The mayor told those gathered, “I, Robert E. Scott, mayor of the city of Sioux City, Iowa, on behalf of the city council, do hereby proclaim August 2025 as National Health Center Week,” and thanked the health center for its years of service. A Siouxland Community Health Center representative accepted the proclamation and, on behalf of the center, thanked the city for support that helps provide care “not just for those that can afford health care, but those that cannot.”
The proclamation noted community health centers’ integration of oral health, vision, behavioral health and pharmacy services and described the Siouxland center as “a critical economic engine” generating “millions of dollars in combined economic impact and job creation.” The remarks at council were ceremonial; no formal policy action accompanied the proclamation.
The presentation occurred during the meeting’s opening remarks before the council moved to routine business and the consent agenda. The council did not take further action tied to the proclamation at that meeting.
The council’s ceremonial recognition underscores a local acknowledgment of the Siouxland Community Health Center’s ongoing role in primary care and related services in Sioux City.
