Committee approves temporary closure of Parking Lot J and North Riverside block for fire department demonstrations

Fire Chief Mote asked the committee to approve a temporary closure of Parking Lot J and the 100 block of North Riverside Avenue to host department demonstrations, and the committee approved the request. Chief Mote said the event will include vehicle extrication, a live-burn demonstration, a junior firefighter combat challenge and other exhibits. He told the committee the public portion of demonstrations is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on the event day, but staff requests control of the areas from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. to allow setup and removal. A motion to approve the temporary closures carried (moved by Munn, seconded by GEM); the ayes prevailed. Chief Mote and staff will handle event logistics and public safety measures for pedestrian access between the fire station and demonstration areas. No additional conditions or fees were recorded in the committee motion; staff will proceed with standard event coordination.
