Acting Deputy Chief LaMella recommended and the Government Operations Committee approved temporary closures of Main Street (Route 64) between Sixth Street and Second Avenue and a partial closure of Municipal Lot B to accommodate two high-school homecoming parades in September. LaMella told the committee both St. Charles North High School and St. Charles East plan to follow the established parade route east on Main Street from Sixth Street to Second Avenue; both parades are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and are expected to last about 30 minutes. She said the schools requested partial closure of Municipal Lot B, located behind Flagship On The Fox and Pollyanna, to facilitate loading and unloading of parade participants and vehicles. The committee voted on a motion to approve the partial Municipal Lot B closure and the IDOT resolutions for temporary street closures for the two dates. The motion was moved by Werribal and seconded by Petrillo; the ayes carried. Deputy Chief LaMella confirmed the requests mirrored prior years' practice and noted staff recommended the temporary closures to ensure participant and public safety during the events. The committee did not set additional conditions beyond the IDOT resolution language presented; staff will coordinate logistics and communications with the schools and will follow IDOT requirements for the temporary closures.
