City reports First Avenue near closeout; Glendale Road and curb work to start

Public-works updates at the July 14 meeting said the First Avenue project is nearing finish, with restoration work underway and a small number of remaining items to close out the project.
A city official also said Glendale Road adjacent to the current city hall will restart once an old building is removed; the work will include a new parking lot entrance and the approach from the fire department. The official said the city anticipates beginning that work within a couple of weeks after demolition and smoothing operations.
Street-crew work on curb repairs will begin soon, followed by paving and sidewalk work at locations listed in the city’s street program. Officials reported that street lights at First Avenue are in place and operational and that crews are close to completing the remaining punch-list items.
City staff noted three positions in the department are being filled with two new hires starting on the 20th of the month and one starting earlier in the week, restoring the department to full staffing levels.
