Sand Springs board affirms superintendent’s denial of student transfer after closed session

The Sand Springs Public Schools Board of Education on Aug. 4 voted to accept the superintendent’s decision to deny a requested student transfer following an executive session in which the board considered the appeal.
Board members convened in executive session to consider the appeal of a denied student transfer and returned to open session at 7:33 p.m., saying no other matters were discussed and no votes were taken during the closed session. The board then voted to accept the superintendent’s denial of the transfer request.
A motion to accept the superintendent’s decision was made and seconded; the board recorded unanimous approval with Mullins, Hamlin, Naugle, Spoon and Wagers voting aye.
Board statements in open session noted that the executive session considered only the student-transfer appeal. The board did not release additional details about the student or the reasons for the denial during the public meeting.
