Mark Halsey, a building and zoning official, briefed the council on July 14 about planned operational changes intended to speed permitting and inspections.
Halsey said the department will change office hours effective Aug. 11 to start earlier and close at 3:30 p.m. to match site work and gate access: “we'll be changing our hours on August 11. We'll go to 7 to 03:30,” he said. Halsey said the shift responds to contractor schedules and building access at the service building.
He also said staff are working to streamline several processes to reduce delay in plan review and inspections so projects can be completed sooner. Halsey described the building code as a tool for safety and said he intends to apply it deliberately to allow timely completion of safe projects.
No formal ordinance or code change was proposed at the meeting; the discussion described internal administrative changes and anticipated future items that will be brought before council as needed.
