City to promote food-waste drop-off as new facility opens; sustainability summit scheduled

City staff told the council on July 14 they plan to publicize the city’s food-waste drop-off program in conjunction with the opening of the new municipal facility and to remind residents of accepted materials and rules.
The director said the city will send a postcard notice to residents explaining the do’s and don’ts of the food-waste drop-off and plans to point out the drop-off during facility dedication tours. Staff said they will work with the vendors named in the report to improve public outreach.
Officials also reminded council that the Mortisee Sustainability Summit is scheduled for Sept. 30; staff said council members interested in attending should contact Mary. City staff said they would be present at the summit to represent municipal programs.
No new funding or regulatory changes for the food-waste program were adopted during the meeting; the discussion was limited to outreach and coordination plans tied to the facility opening.
