Mayor Mike Compton and council members used the reports portion of the meeting to thank first responders and pool staff after an incident at the municipal pool earlier in the week. The mayor said quick action by lifeguards, police and firefighters helped save a child.
"Later during the week, they said the whole boy's gonna make a a full recovery," the mayor said during his remarks.
Assistant city administrator Chris (surname as in transcript) named the lifeguard who intervened. "Did wanna call him out by name. Caleb Ross is the lifeguard, who worked for Columbus pool management now," Chris said, adding that three officers also assisted. Council members praised the lifeguard’s and officers’ actions and asked staff to recognize their effort publicly.
The statements were presented as council and staff reports; no formal motion or vote was recorded in the meeting minutes to authorize awards or expenditures related to the incident.
