Board approves consent docket including fifth-grade substance-prevention pilot and behavioral-health aide at Shidek

At Thursday's meeting the Yukon Public Schools board approved the business consent docket that included multiple service agreements and program continuations. District staff described a new pilot with Peaceful Family Oklahoma, designed to provide substance-use prevention education for younger students. "This is gonna help for me hopefully be something that we do on the front end of things to decrease the amount of instances that we go through," district staff member Adam said. The pilot is planned for fifth-grade classrooms as a six-week program delivered in-class with the teacher present; Adam said the item is a pilot and limited to fifth grade only. Board discussion noted the contract cost increased from about $56,000 to not exceed $63,000 because of increased student need and expanded weekly groups in certain grade bands; Adam said the higher figure reflected an increase to allow one to two more middle-school groups and three to four more high-school groups as needed. The consent docket also included a continuation of a no-cost arrangement with Red Rock Behavioral Behavioral Health Sciences, described by staff as a VISTA-supported program that provides a full-time behavioral health aide at Shidek Elementary. "That is an agreement that was started about 5 years ago ... it provides a behavioral health aide to Shidek Elementary," staff said, and the board noted there is no local cost for that arrangement at this time. Other consent-docket items discussed briefly in the meeting included the School Resource Officer contract (four officers, listed cost still at $30,000), school-based family specialist services (described as no-cost), and an Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education funding/contract item described by staff as recovering costs without a single specified dollar figure. Board members asked staff to clarify instances where documents referenced "cost sharing" but showed no local cost; staff confirmed several items were no-cost agreements or grant-funded supports.
