City council accepts $2,158 in donations for animal shelter programs

The Sugar Land City Council on Aug. 5 accepted $2,158 in monetary donations for adoption efforts and community education at the city animal shelter. Deputy Administrator of Animal Services Mark Grothas, standing in for Animal Services Manager Melissa Hobson, told the council the shelter received 17 donations since April 2025 totaling $2,158, including one donation of $1,000 from a Subaru Loves Pets event. City policy requires council acceptance of monetary donations, Grothas said. Council Member Singhal moved approval and Council Member Vandahar seconded; the motion passed 7-0. City staff thanked donors and said funds will support the shelter donations fund for adoption and community education programs.
