Trustee asks staff for semiannual prioritized capital-projects list to aid oversight

Trustee Jensen asked the Buena Park School District board on Aug. 4 to receive a prioritized list of ongoing capital projects twice a year so trustees can monitor project sequencing, costs and potential delays.
"I just wanted to continue to see a a really good list and prioritized list for the board of capital projects that are ongoing within the district so that we can maintain ... the oversight necessary," Trustee Jensen said during the "board member requests" portion of the meeting. He asked that staff revisit the list roughly twice per year to reflect changing prices and priorities.
Why it matters: capital projects (facilities, modernization and construction) are large, often multi-year expenditures. Trustees said they want a shared, board-approved prioritization so the district can weigh schedule trade-offs if costs rise or funding constraints occur.
District staff acknowledged the request and indicated capital and construction updates can be provided under information correspondence and as part of a regular capital-projects report; trustees noted the item should include non-bond construction and project timing.
The discussion did not produce a formal vote; trustees directed staff to add capital-projects prioritization and periodic updates to board information items.
