Council authorizes staff to apply for Minnesota DNR large shooting range grant with local match

The New Ulm City Council authorized staff Tuesday to submit a grant application to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources—s large shooting range grant program for up to the $100,000 maximum. The city would partner with the Sioux Valley Gun Club, which has committed matching funds if the application is successful.
Staff said the project would replace the current trap range building and place a new structure in the New Ulm North section near the trap and field areas. The grant program requires the project to be completed by June 30, 2026, if awarded.
Councilors and staff noted wide participation in trap shooting activities among area schools, including public and parochial programs, and characterized the facility as a regional resource that receives heavy youth use. Council approved the motion to authorize submittal of the grant application; Director Jorgensen called the roll and Councilors Christian, Schmitz, Mack and Womack voted yes.
