North College Hill introduces Lataya Miles as recreation director; back-to-school and Party in the Park events planned

City Administrator Duxtine introduced Lataya Miles as North College Hill’s new recreation director during the council’s August meeting. Miles appeared before council and said, “My name is Lataya Miles and I am excited to work with you all and moving forward and working for the city.”

Administration and council members outlined several near-term recreation activities. Staff announced a police-sponsored back-to-school event on August 7, a Party in the Park scheduled for August 16 (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.), and the city’s intent to distribute backpacks, popcorn, bicycle helmets and locks at coordinated events. Council members also said planning for Juneteenth 2026 and a potential fireworks program are ongoing; staff told council that sponsor solicitation materials and other logistics would be handed off to the incoming recreation director and that any expenditures will be considered through the budget process.

Council members congratulated Miles and encouraged residents to volunteer and participate in upcoming community activities. Council Member Gaston noted volunteer sign-ups for events and called for participation in the city’s pet parade and bake-off at Party in the Park. The city administrator said department staff will work with Miles to finalize event logistics and budget allocations.

No formal vote was needed to introduce Miles; the meeting record shows the announcement and initial planning direction for recreation programming.

Next steps: Administration will work with the new recreation director on sponsor outreach, budgets and any committee requests for funding that council must approve in Budget & Finance.
