City approves three Destination Geneva grants totaling up to $7,500 for local events

The Geneva City Council authorized three Destination Geneva grants, awarding up to $2,500 each to Vargo's Dance LLC (Thriller), Kristen Holly LLC (Autumn Fest) and Grow Geneva LLC (Earth Made Market), to support events intended to boost overnight stays, visits and downtown economic activity.
City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins said the Destination Geneva program reimburses special events that increase visits, encourage economic development and support the city's strategic plan for purposeful growth. Kathleen Timoshenko, director of economic development, presented the three applications and recommended funding of $2,500 for each applicant. She noted full event details and budget information are in the council packet.
Alderman Bari said the program was accomplishing its goals and welcomed the quick approvals. Alderman Reineke asked about one application that listed a $2,000 request on its application form; staff explained the council's vote authorizes up to $2,500 and that final reimbursement would depend on the applicant’s documented eligible expenses and reporting requirements.
Motions to approve each grant (Resolutions 2025-91, 2025-92 and 2025-93) carried unanimously by roll call (11–0). Staff said final grant disbursement will follow submission of required documentation and the grants could be funded at lesser amounts if expense documentation warrants.
