The Geneva City Council on Aug. 4 confirmed Mayor Burns' appointment of Alexandra Voigt as the city's next city administrator, approving the nomination by roll call vote.
Voigt, introduced by the mayor and endorsed for her public-administration credentials and municipal experience, thanked the mayor and council and said she was “really looking forward to working with everyone and all of the department and division heads.” She introduced family members and colleagues who attended from the City of Aurora.
The council's vote followed the mayor's remarks summarizing Voigt's background, including a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio, prior service as deputy chief of staff in Aurora, Ill., and executive leadership coursework at the Harvard Kennedy School and FEMA's Emergency Management Institute. The mayor also noted Voigt’s experience managing budgets, modernizing systems, and developing business-friendly processes.
A motion by Alderman Bowering, seconded by the mayor, carried with 10 affirmative votes, 0 nays and 0 absent; the mayor then invited Voigt to the dais for remarks and introductions. Voigt said she appreciated the council's confidence and looked forward to beginning her new duties.
The appointment concluded with brief ceremonial remarks and the council moved on to other agenda items.
