Summary
A localized storm dropped 5.5–6 inches of rain in the county's southern area, forcing multiple road closures and prompting repair crews to address washouts; county staff said high-water roads will reopen as waters recede.
County highway staff reported multiple road closures and washouts in the southern part of the county after a localized storm that produced about 5½ to 6 inches of rain.
Larry Robbins, presenting a roads update, said crews closed several roads and were working on washout repairs. Roads closed that morning included Louisville from 01:59 to Oregon Church; Harlan from 02:46 to All Street; Rush from Oregon Church to 159; Eastwood from Louisville to Moseman; Stevens just east of 159; Oregon Church from Payne to Sullivan; Payne from Oregon Church to Cutzinger; and Dearborn from Eastwind to Blackhawk. Robbins said those routes are in the county’s south area around State Road 570.
Robbins described the rainfall as "we had reports of 5 and a half to 6 inches of rain down there," and said the affected area is relatively flat, so water has limited places to drain. He said some locations experienced washouts that crews were repairing and other roads were closed for high water and would open as water receded.
Commissioners did not take formal action in the meeting; Robbins said crews were working to reopen roads as conditions allowed.
