Vern Tincher, president of the Riley Fire District Board, told the council the district is requesting an additional appropriation of $59,100 to correct a Gateway budgeting error identified by auditors. Tincher said the district’s auditor flagged the omission and the appropriation is needed for the special cumulative fund, which the district uses for debt and equipment payments.
"We're requesting additional appropriation of $59,100," Tincher said, adding that his understanding is that Gateway erred when preparing the district’s budget and the auditors want it corrected for audit purposes. Council members asked for clarification on the purpose of the funds; Tincher said they were related to a fire truck purchase about 12 years ago and a tanker bought last year, and the appropriation is to align the accounting for those expenditures with the budget. The council did not take immediate action on the request at this meeting.
