Facilities report: boiler replacements cut energy use; Fairview Building bids move to interviews

County facilities staff reported measurable reductions in energy consumption after replacing boilers at multiple county buildings, but said savings in dollars were muted because overall energy prices have risen. The report came during the Property Committee’s monthly facilities update.
Mr. Gaither said boiler replacements at the juvenile detention facility and at 200 West Front Street (the Health Department building) have reduced energy usage. He cautioned that decreased consumption did not translate into lower bills because the cost of energy has risen generally, though staff said they had “flattened the curve” on county costs compared with recent spikes.
Committee members also discussed the Fairview Building. Staff said they had received all architect and engineer submissions and are working to narrow candidates to interviews. Mr. Gaither and Scott said they were preparing a mechanical punch list after recent walkthroughs. No formal action was required at the meeting.
