Committee approves Otis contracts to modernize Government Center elevators and replace sidewalk lift

The McLean County Board Property Committee approved two separate agreements with Otis: one to modernize the south elevator in the Government Center Building and another to replace the sidewalk lift and bulkhead at the same building. Member Tompkins moved the modernization item, which was seconded by Member Bell; the sidewalk lift item was moved by Member Duffy and seconded by Member Bell. Both requests were approved.
Mr. Gaither told the committee the south elevator has not been modernized and that completing the south, center and north elevators would finish modernization of the building’s three elevators. He said the price for the south elevator “did come in, slightly higher than what we've had on the others” and cited a roughly 10% increase compared with prior projects: “the North elevator was 3, just under $3.20 in 2022. In 2023, the center elevator came in at just under $3.55 and then this 1 is $3.89.” The transcript did not specify currency units or whether the shorthand represents thousands.
On the sidewalk lift, Gaither described the existing bulkhead on the building’s south side as in “bad repair” and said the project will include replacement of that bulkhead to create a safer area where yellow safety barriers are currently in place. The committee recorded no amendments and approved forwarding both agreements to the county board.
