Vigo County staff told the council that most companies receiving county tax abatements filed the state annual reporting form required for abatement compliance, but one company required repeated prompting to submit its materials.
A county staff member summarized a packet of annual abatement compliance reports and said the documents show employee counts and payroll estimates companies used when they requested abatements. "It looks like the majority of these are in compliance," the staff member said, but he noted Great Dane reported fewer employees than it had projected and required explanation. He identified Industrial Maintenance Engineering as the single entity that did not respond promptly to county requests for its SB‑1 report; county staff and the company’s attorney later provided the missing material.
The staff member said revocation of an abatement is a county’s ultimate leverage but the county has not taken that step. "I believe ... there [are] penalties for not filing these short of revoking the entire abatement," he said, adding county staff will explore available enforcement options going forward. Council members asked questions but took no vote or enforcement action at the meeting.
