Property committee approves contract with Dewberry for Metcom HVAC design

The McLean County Board Property Committee voted to approve a contract with Dewberry to provide design and engineering work for HVAC replacement at the Metcom facility. The motion to bring the contract to the board floor was made by Member Duffy and seconded by Member Tompkins; the committee voted to approve the request.
Committee staff said the facility’s four HVAC systems have been difficult to keep running because the existing equipment was not accurately sized for the building. Mr. Gaither turned the presentation over to Scott, who said the contract is for “design and engineering for the HVAC system needing at Metcom” and explained the need for outside expertise.
Member Duffy asked whether the county typically outsources engineering for projects of this type, noting staffing issues among county engineers. Scott replied, “I try and avoid it whenever possible. If it's something we can handle inside, we definitely do it and not spend the extra money on the engineering. When it gets a little beyond us and this advanced, we do reach out.”
The committee recorded no additional conditions or amendments on the contract during the meeting. The item was approved for forwarding to the county board.
