SGMA fee changes deferred; staff cites lack of prior probationary reporting

The State Water Resources Control Board epartment responsible for groundwater on July 30 said it will not propose changes to Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) fees in this cycle because staff lack historical probationary reporting and fee-collection experience that would support a defensible graduated fee structure.
Natalie Stork, director of the Office of Sustainable Groundwater Management, told stakeholders that although staff presented a conceptual graduated-fee structure at a prior meeting, "staff do not have any proposals for this fee cycle. There is significant uncertainty since we have not collected probationary reporting and fees before." She encouraged stakeholders who have fee-structure proposals to share them with the fee team by email.
Stakeholders asked about prior slides and posting; staff confirmed the prior slide deck had been posted and offered to follow up with links for stakeholders who missed the earlier meeting. No fee changes or board actions were taken at the July 30 stakeholder meeting; staff said they will continue to evaluate alternatives and invited input via the published fee-team contact address.
