County administrator, state officials to mark start of 4.5‑mile Route 66 Trail extension today

Cassie Taylor of county administration told the committee that state and local officials would hold a 10 a.m. media event in the village of McLean to announce the start of construction for a 4.5‑mile extension of the Route 66 Trail between McLean and the Fungs Grove area. Taylor said the trail will create safer conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians and provide alternate transportation routes while also supporting tourism and local economic benefits in southern McLean County. "This project adds 4.5 miles of developed trail along Route 66 between McLean and the Fungs Grove area," Taylor said. Taylor thanked the Friends of the Trail and volunteers by name for support in advancing grant applications and credited county staff — including Kathy Dreyer, Jerry Stokes and Luke Cohulin — for project work. She invited committee members to the media event later that morning. The committee received the announcement as information; no formal committee action was taken on the trail during the Aug. 5 meeting.
