The sheriff and county staff reported the department’s current 2025 budget for part‑time corrections shows roughly $562,229 budgeted, with about $205,786 spent to date. Commissioners and the sheriff said hiring two full‑time officers from existing part‑time budget lines should reduce ongoing overtime costs and stabilize coverage.
The board approved the personnel transfer and full‑time hiring by motion. Commissioners asked that the sheriff return to the board for an update after six months if the vacancies or overtime needs remained significant. The board also noted that if a long‑term vacancy results, the sheriff may fill the position through normal personnel procedures without an additional request to the board, because the action uses existing budgeted money.
