Council adopts fee schedule to allow veterinary services at Sedalia Bridal Shelter for nonprofits

The Sedalia City Council voted July 21 to add fees to the city code to permit veterinary services at the Sedalia Bridal Shelter for nonprofit animal shelters and rescues licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. The change matters because staff said timely approval will allow local rescue groups access to lower-cost veterinary care and permit the city to recover program expenses through a set price schedule. Public safety committee members described the proposed program and pricing. “The Sedalia Bridal Shelter is preparing to begin offering veterinary services to nonprofit shelters and rescues licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture,” Public Safety Chairperson Scribner said. He told the council pricing is based on animal weight and procedures and will be restricted to nonprofit partners, not the general public. He explained two reasons for prompt approval: to provide accessible care to local shelters and to allow the city to begin collecting revenue to support the program. The council held a second reading of Bill No. 2025-130, “An ordinance amending the fee schedule of the code of ordinances of the city of Sedalia, Missouri by establishing fees for veterinary services at the Sedalia Bridal Shelter,” and then approved it on final passage by roll call. No amendments were recorded at the meeting. City staff said the pricing was developed to keep costs affordable for nonprofit partners while allowing expense recovery; the council approved the schedule so services can begin as soon as operational arrangements are complete.
