Board delegates late-file petition decisions to counsel, approves hearing schedule and routine contracts

The Value Adjustment Board at its June 10 meeting delegated decisions on late-file petitions to board legal counsel and approved a tentative hearing schedule and several routine administrative items.
On late-file petitions, Mister Thalwitzer explained the established practice that counsel reviews good-cause requests for late filings and either grants or denies them. He said historically he has handled those requests and recommended continuing that approach. The board voted unanimously to authorize counsel to process bona fide good-cause petitions; counsel clarified that if he denies a request, that ends the petition process, while a granted request proceeds like any other petition.
The board also approved a tentative hearing schedule beginning Oct. 6, 2025, and concluding Jan. 18, 2026, with dates to be extended as needed to accommodate all petitioners. The motion to adopt the schedule passed unanimously.
Separately, the board unanimously approved the contract for the Value Adjustment Board Council and the value adjustment board council verification form, and it approved the May 13, 2025 meeting minutes.
