Richfield board adopts updated petty-cash policy to align practice and branding

The Richfield School Board unanimously approved Policy 7.10 (petty cash) and administrative guideline 7.10.1 on Monday, updating petty-cash amounts and aligning policy language with district branding.
Superintendent Steve Unowski summarized the changes as “minor” and said the updates align authorized cash amounts with current practice across district locations. “Changes in regard to district branding and styles, and then also the cash amount, that actually are in RPS locations have been updated to align to practice,” Unowski said.
Board members asked for clarification on permitted amounts at specific locations. One trustee asked whether $100 was the maximum for petty-cash transactions; administration replied the intent is to reduce low-dollar check transactions (for example, avoiding many $10 checks) and that the policy sets typical thresholds rather than a strict, universal ceiling. The high-school athletic office’s higher petty-cash total was explained as necessary because multiple events may require separate money boxes.
Motion and vote: Director Spencer moved to pass Policy 7.10; Director Cole seconded. The chair and all directors voted aye and the policy was approved.
The policy change was procedural and does not affect bargaining units; administration said the revisions reflect current operating practices and clarified amounts for particular campus functions.
