The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to increase a previously approved fiscal-year 2025 purchase order for St. Luke’s School by $14,291.13 to cover a final invoice for medical and health services the board is required to pay for certain private schools.
Town staff explained the invoice was slightly higher than the estimate. The department characterized the total requested amount as about $132,000; staff described the calculation as a function of board-of-education health-care cost per student applied to the number of Connecticut students attending the two private schools the town helps service.
Staff explained the allocation follows state statute rules applied to Connecticut students and that the town’s calculation reflects the number of New Canaan students; the town pursued contingency transfers from the board of finance to make funds available for the final invoice.
“Because of our grand list and the size of our grand list, we actually are not eligible to the level” for reimbursements that might be available to larger districts, staff said, noting the town has limited ability to seek small refunds. The board approved increasing the PO and authorized payment.
