Selectmen award sidewalk replacement contract at Lapham Community Center

The Board of Selectmen approved a contract with Peter Lani Inc. for sidewalk replacement at the Lapham Community Center, awarding a low bid of $53,350 plus a 10% contingency of $5,300 for a total authorization of $58,650.
Department of Public Works staff told the board the existing sidewalks are original to the building, have begun to spall and have problematic interfaces with the Belgian-block curbing; three curb ramps lack tactile warning strips and are no longer compliant. The scope includes removing the Belgian block, installing new granite curbing and replacing sidewalks and ramps to remove tripping hazards and to comply with accessibility requirements.
The contractor estimated about seven workdays to complete the job, and the DPW said town-owned granite material purchased previously will supply the project’s granite curbing. The funds are available from the town’s fiscal-year 26 sidewalk capital account, where an original budget of $500,000 remains for sidewalk projects.
Selectmen voted unanimously to award the contract and contingency and to proceed with the work before the community center’s active season resumes.
