The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a purchase order, not to exceed $12,500, with Resource Management Associates (RMA) to provide promotional testing services for firefighters applying for the ranks of lieutenant and captain.
A fire-department representative described the RMA contract as covering a four-part assessment center: a written exam, a tactical exercise that simulates running a fire, and two human-resources-style scenarios or presentations to evaluate soft skills. The assessment center combines scores from all components into a final evaluation for promotion candidates.
“This is the actual test,” the fire-department representative said, explaining the vendor-run written and practical components and that evaluators from other departments are brought in to independently score scenarios. The representative said RMA was selected for its Connecticut experience, reputation and turnaround speed and that this would be the department’s third test cycle with RMA.
The department said the tests were already administered and that this action covers payment; funds for the work will be charged to the fiscal year 26 vacancy budget lines where appropriate. The representative told the board the invoice appears to be about $12,009 but recommended the not-to-exceed amount of $12,500 to accommodate receipts and variable costs.
The motion to approve the purchase order carried unanimously.
