Commission approves roof replacement and doorway change at 550 Front Street to add interior ADA ramp

The commission on Monday approved an application to replace roof shingles and add a doorway with an interior ramp at 550 Front Street. The applicant, Dr. David Green, told commissioners the project replaces existing materials and will include an interior ADA ramp that does not alter the Front Street sidewalk.
The change approved covers two items: replacement of the building's shingles with the same dark color and the conversion of a glass storefront panel back into a single door to provide ADA access. "For the shingles, we're just replacing what was there. They're super faded, but it's just that black color that's shown there," Dr. David Green said. He identified the shingle as "Atlas black shadow architectural." He said the storefront change will place a single door where a glass wall was and that the door will match the left-side entrance.
Commission members asked where the ADA ramp would be placed and were told it would be interior. "So in on the inside of the building. So it'd be interior ... it's only needs, I think, like, 3 or 4 feet. It's ... maybe a 4 to 6 inch elevation," Green said. He said the ramp would be handled by the building's contractor and noted that the work would not require changes to Front Street or its walkway.
The commission clarified that this application was not a signage request and that any exterior paint or signage would return for review if required. A motion by Mr. Donahoe, seconded by Mr. Wilson, to approve the application as presented passed on a voice vote.
The applicant said he intends to match the existing door color and will confirm final paint or finish with staff before painting. The commission record includes photographs and plans submitted with the application.
