County authorizes filing petition to start regional sewer district process

Boone County commissioners authorized the filing of a petition as the first step toward establishing a regional sewer district for part or all of Boone County.
Beth Goodwin presented the request and said the petition was submitted by BSC (the petitioner named in packet materials) and requires action by both the commissioners and the county council. She emphasized that the resolution before the commissioners authorizes only filing the petition; it does not itself create the district.
The board approved the resolution authorizing filing the petition by voice vote. Goodwin noted that a companion resolution will appear before the county council at its next meeting.
Why it matters: Establishing a regional sewer district can facilitate planning, financing and construction of wastewater infrastructure across jurisdictional lines; the authorization to file a petition starts the statutory process.
