Parish announces senior beanbag baseball, microchip event, nursing-home visits and school-care programs

Parish President Jewel announced several community programs and events managed by St. Charles Parish departments.
She said the parishs beanbag baseball program for seniors will begin Wednesday, Aug. 13, with games held each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center. Jewel also announced an animal-shelter "Check the Chip" day on Friday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 921 Deputy Jeff G. Watson Drive in Luling; the event is free with proof of residence and the parish provided the animal-shelter phone number, (985) 783-5010, for questions.
Jewel said animal-shelter staff and volunteers visit local nursing homes every Tuesday to bring animals for residents. She also outlined before- and after-school care and tutoring: the Killona and Boutte community centers will provide before care for $4 per day and aftercare with the fee waived at both locations; parents must register at the Killona Community Center, 201 LA Highway 3141, or at the Boutte Community Center, 119 Magnolia Ridge Road. In partnership with IMTT, the St. Rose Community Center will offer free before and after care at 608 Mockingbird Lane. Boutte Community Center will offer free after-school tutoring for grades K-7 beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7.
