CC Road closed for sheet-pile work at Muntz Pump Station; residents asked not to dump in canals

Parish President Jewel announced that both north- and southbound lanes of CC Road in Muntz will be closed between U.S. 61 (Airline Highway) and River Road through Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 p.m. for sheet-pile installation at Muntz Pump Station No. 1. The parish said the closure is necessary for construction safety and will be used while crews set sheet piles at the pump station.

The closure is one phase of a longer project that Jewel said will prompt intermittent closures along CC Road as work progresses. She said the parish will try to keep the road open when possible but will close it when required for safety during pump-station construction.

Officials also told residents that crews have hired professionally trained divers to remove logs and large debris from the bottoms of bar screens in parish canals. Jewel said items ranging from tires and mattresses to barbecue pits have been found in canals and can jam intake screens, restricting pump performance. She asked residents who live near canals to avoid throwing items into drainage systems and to report issues such as leaning or fallen trees, or debris in canals, to the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center at (985) 783-5050.

This announcement is informational; no formal vote or ordinance was offered during the report. Jewel framed the closures and cleanup as necessary safety and maintenance measures and asked for residentscooperation while work is under way.

The parish did not provide a daily schedule for the CC Road work beyond the stated end time of Aug. 15 at 10 p.m., nor did it specify how many separate closures crews expect during the larger project. Residents with immediate safety concerns were told to call the EOC number provided.
