Council hears introduction to rezone 50 parcels as part of official zoning map update

Council members received an introduction to an ordinance that would finalize the City of Jasper's updated zoning map by rezoning the remaining 50 parcels that were annexed under a municipal reserve designation. Brett McCallum, a council member, told the council there are "50 individual parcels left of the more than 300 that we started with back in April." He said, "This ordinance would be rezoning those 50 parcels from the municipal reserve designation... They will be rezoned in differing numbers to R-1 single family, BT business transition, BTB2 community service commercial, B4, M2 heavy industrial, M3 light industrial, and AG agricultural zoning." McCallum said that, with this ordinance, the council would complete the update of the official zoning map. The item was introduced and no formal action or vote was taken at the meeting. Staff and council members indicated they will consider the matter at a future meeting; council members asked no substantive questions during the introduction on the public record. Because this was an introduction, property owners affected by rezoning will have additional notice and a subsequent opportunity for formal council action before any zoning changes take effect.
