Wright County commissioners voted unanimously Aug. 5 to award a contract to Shaffer Contracting for the reconstruction of County Road 137, with the apparent low bid reported at $8,230,572.30. The motion to accept the award (contract 2506) was made by Commissioner Holland and seconded by Commissioner Dietrich; the board recorded the vote in favor and declared the motion passed.
County highway staff said bids opened recently and that Shaffer Contracting was the apparent low bidder. Chad of the county Highway Department told commissioners the firm is already working locally — including on work on U.S. 94 and roundabouts in Monticello — and recommended awarding the contract to Shaffer Contracting. For the record, a commissioner noted the low bid amount as $8,230,572.30.
The next administrative step, county staff said, is to submit a Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) grant application on the 19th; the LRIP submission must follow bidding. County staff said work can begin after the post-bid and grant steps are complete. Commissioners did not record any amendments or additional conditions to the award during the meeting.
The meeting was brief; after the unanimous vote the board ended the special session at 9:04 a.m. No other substantive items were discussed during the August 5 session.
