City staff reported to the Planning and Zoning Commission on Aug. 4 that the city council reviewed an ordinance at its July 28 meeting to repeal the rezoning previously granted for 145 Fifth (the former St. Mary’s Hospital) after the applicant did not submit a final development plan within the two-year approval window.
City staff member Dan told commissioners the council discussed property maintenance violations at the site. He said the owner paid the fines owed and indicated they will submit final plans shortly; after discussion, the council tabled the repeal ordinance to its Sept. 8 meeting.
Staff noted the original approval had been for a preliminary plan allowing conversion to 32 apartment units in the existing building but that no final plan was filed within the two-year deadline in the city's approval process. The commission was informed of the council’s action for awareness; no formal action was taken by the commission on this item during the Aug. 4 meeting.
The commission packet did not list any city funding associated with the 145 Fifth project, and staff confirmed no city funds had been provided. The matter will return to the council on Sept. 8 for further action unless final plans are filed earlier.
