Commissioners approve bid advertisement for correctional-facility elevator repair, superseding prior resolution

The Lawrence County commissioners voted unanimously Aug. 5 to advertise for bids to repair or renovate the elevators at the county correctional facility. The motion, adopted as proposed Resolution 226, authorizes the county to advertise for bids on Aug. 6 and Aug. 13 for the Lawrence County correctional-facility elevator project and explicitly supersedes an earlier county action (Resolution 191 of 2021) that covered the same procurement path. County staff and prison-board members presented the request. Commissioners noted the prison board — which includes the commissioners, district attorney, county controller and sheriff by statute — oversees jail operations but that contracting and procurement actions must come before the board of commissioners. Commissioner Sonata, who chairs the prison board, said the work is driven by safety needs for both staff and incarcerated people and that the county wants to solicit a broad set of bidders. The board approved the resolution on a unanimous roll call after a motion to add language noting the supersedure of the prior resolution. No bid awards were made; the vote authorized the competitive advertisement so proposals can be received and evaluated by county staff and the prison board.
