Health department contracts IBCLC and approves steel cabinets for WIC office

Graham County health officials asked supervisors Aug. 4 to approve two items for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Health Department staff requested authorization to contract with Lisa Taylor, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), for $40 per 30‑minute consultation when needed; staff said none of the department’s WIC employees currently holds the IBCLC credential and that phone and hotline resources are used most of the time. Supervisors approved the contract. Health staff also requested permission to use budgeted federal funds to purchase steel cabinets for the WIC office for $3,916.11. Staff said the current cabinets are old, doors do not lock and the purchase is covered by federal funding but needed a county coding change to proceed. The board approved the purchase and noted it was covered by federal funding so the general fund would not be depleted. County officials recorded both approvals by voice vote.
