The Graham County Board of Supervisors approved an unbudgeted capital purchase of up to $3,700 Aug. 4 for an upgrade to election equipment from vendor Election Systems & Software (ES&S). Elections Director Hannah Duderstadt said the state has approved the vendor’s upgrade and that it delivers security enhancements, expanded language support on accessible voting devices and additional results‑reporting modules helpful for public‑records requests. She added the upgrade is part of contingency planning to maintain compatibility with the county’s backup, Gila County, which is also upgrading. Duderstadt told the board the purchase is primarily hardware and a one‑time cost rather than an annual renewal. Supervisors discussed the importance of election security and, noting elections are critical functions, approved the purchase by voice vote.
