Board OKs multiple vehicle replacements and leases for maintenance and meter crews

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved replacement and lease arrangements for multiple city fleet vehicles on Aug. 5, agreeing staff may proceed with quotes from the city’s leasing vendor.
Public works staff presented three separate vehicle items: a Chevrolet 2500 pickup (on the capital plan for outright purchase), a 3,500‑series utility truck with a utility bed to replace an older van, and a 1,500 half‑ton pickup to replace a 2012 meter van whose repair estimate made continued service impractical. Staff said the meter van required roughly $6,000 in repairs and its book value was low; the leasing program will handle proceeds from the old unit.
The board moved and seconded approval for each vehicle acquisition; each motion passed by aye vote. Staff said several existing vehicles are roughly 20 years old and replacements will include a mini excavator and other equipment under ongoing capital planning.
Board members discussed whether purchases were outright or via lease for particular units; staff clarified that the first truck was a purchase under the capital plan and the others would be acquired through the leasing program as indicated in the agenda. No trade‑ins were described for the new purchases.
The board did not set additional policy changes for fleet procurement; staff will proceed with the vendors and leasing company to finalize paperwork.
