Public health seeks purchase of mobile medical unit to replace aging RV for syringe services

Public health staff presented a request to purchase a replacement mobile medical unit for the county's syringe service expansion and wound-care outreach. The unit would replace an older 1997 RV that staff said has been in repair repeatedly and costs more to fix than it would to replace. The presenter described a Tesco-built unit on a Ford chassis with washable surfaces, a wheelchair lift and space configured for clinical services provided through a partnership with North Mason Regional Fire Authority. Staff said funds for the purchase would come from a reserve account established from prior contract work with the Cascade Pacific Action Alliance. "We have had that in savings, and we're looking to use that money," the presenter said. The presenter reported that a resolution for the purchase has already been signed by the county administrator for placement on the August 19 action agenda. Commissioners asked staff to consider longer-term opportunities to coordinate this mobile asset with broader behavioral health or opioid settlement projects currently discussed regionally, and to return with any additional grant or settlement funding options. Staff also said they have submitted paperwork for another opioid settlement disbursement and will ask the board for direction on allocation when awards are confirmed.
